Archaeological site of Monte Sirai

In the province of South Sardinia, in Carbonia, we find Mount Sirai: a famous hill occupied largely by an important archaeological area witness of a large Phoenician and Punic settlement. The Phoenician colony, strongly integrated with the pre-existing Nuragic community, was founded around 750 BC, later destroyed and rebuilt by the Carthaginians. The latter lived there, completely rebuilding it according to a unitary urban plan and strengthening it. They were forced to abandon it, perhaps because of the Romans. A model of the entire mountain is located within the educational center. Also on display are illustrative panels of the settlement and monuments. Cultural activities, including concerts and theatrical performances, are organized periodically.
